Welcome to a new series where I discuss the media I've recently engaged with and the aspects I enjoyed. A fun fact about me, which you might have noticed on my about me page, is that I host a podcast called Life Diary Podcast with Debs x Fayo, which we launched in 2020. I've always been captivated by media in its various forms, including podcasts, music, books, and more.
This initial edition will concentrate on the media I consumed in September. Before diving in, I just want to mention that I've been enjoying a feast of incredible albums released by artists. I'm eating good :)
Here are some of the amazing media I experienced;

Blameless by Jackie Hill Perry: I've always valued JHP in my Christian journey because her story exemplifies true redemption. Seeing her not box herself, as she mentioned in one of her songs on this album, "Is she a preacher, a rapper, or poet?" is inspiring. As someone who believes in exploring all my God-given talents, I deeply admire her artistry.
This album is a remarkable piece of work, not only from a Christian standpoint but also artistically, as she experiments with sounds, wordplay, and poetic imagery to convey her message. Simply incredible!
It was evident that she was in the Word. If you haven't listened to "Blameless" today, I highly recommend it.
Diary of a CEO - The Insulin & Heart Doctor Episode: I really enjoy this podcast because I learn a lot from many episodes, and Steven Bartlett is an excellent interviewer. In this episode, I gained a lot of knowledge about insulin, which actually motivated me to get my insulin tested soon, and I also learned a bit about intermittent fasting. It was truly a great episode.
The episodes usually last 2 hours, and if you find this challenging, I recommend listening rather than watching.
SWAG II by Justin Bieber: I've discussed this album with everyone close to me. It's hard to put into words how I feel about it. It's one of the best pieces I've heard this year. I love how Justin experiments with his vocals, the instruments, and the adlibs; it's simply magnificent. This deluxe album includes 44 songs and truly feels like he's finally making music the way he's always wanted to.
Justin made this album for the RnB girlies.
When Prophecy Becomes Reality: From Observing Crisis to Living It by Motitomi: I read this well-written essay about the flooding in Lagos, Nigeria, but it wasn't solely about the flooding; it also addressed how Nigeria's governance has failed the country. Many sentences in this essay struck me deeply, and I appreciated how I could feel her experience just through reading it.
In the section titled "The Arithmetic of Isolation," she expressed her emotions so beautifully that I had to put down my phone and close my eyes because it felt so real.
"So I stayed away, monitoring the disaster through digital updates while sitting in air-conditioned comfort. The contrast felt obscene - receiving messages about rising water levels while facilitating zoom calls in a dry office. Safety had become not just privilege but isolation, cutting me off from the very crisis that was reshaping my life."
This essay was an excellent read, and I encourage you to go through it. As she mentioned in her conclusion, "The water will recede. The question is what we'll build in its place."

Crash Landing on You: This is one of my favourite K-dramas, and I adore a slow-burn romance, which Korean dramas excel at. I appreciate how they make small gestures feel significant, and I absolutely love it when the potential couple holds hands
— I'm literally screaming with joy. This is probably my third or fourth rewatch, and it has become a staple for me. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
In summary, September proved to be a month rich in diverse media experiences that not only entertained but also provided depth and insight. As I continue to explore and engage with various media, I look forward to sharing more of my insights and recommendations. Whether it's through music, literature, or visual storytelling, there's always something new to discover and appreciate. I hope you find inspiration in these recommendations and perhaps even uncover new favourites of your own!
